Candy Request

I have fufilled many of my far away candy cravings on my recent travels to the mid-west, having found Valomilks, Twin Bings, Goo Goo Clusters, and Cherry Mash. However, one candy still alludes me. That is the pink grapefruit Mentos. These are only available online or in Canada. So, if anyone is going to Canada, please buy me some. Or, if there's someone else nearby who'd like to split a case of these with me, please let me know. I really want to eat them.

Footnote

Season two of Twin Peaks is everything that the VCR tapes were and more. I can't express my gratitude for the release of these on DVD. I can actually watch them without the muffled noise now! Thank you so much.

An Open Letter to the Movie Goers of America

America,

Please go to see good movies. How is it that one of the worst reviewed movies EVER, "Are We Done Yet?" was the third highest grossing movies last weekend, while "Grindhouse", came in fourth, under another horrible looking movie, "Blades of Glory"? Haven't we all had enough of a scantily clad Will Ferrell?

Grindhouse performed so poorly at the box office this weekend, that they might pull the films, and release them individually ala Kill Bill. From what I have heard, Grindhouse makes you excited about going to the theater again. I will find out and report back after I see it this Saturday.

Please America, stop settling for crap. If you're going to spend 13 dollars going to see something, at least demand that it be worth your while.

Thank you.

Brave New World

This weekend, I travelled to Florida for my Grandmother's 90th birthday celebration. On Sunday, my family and I wanted to find a place to wander before we went to the airport. My Aunt suggested we go to Celebration and walk around for a while.

This is by far the most creepy place I've ever visited. When we first arrived, we were greeted by the sound of chirping birds along the street. Except that we couldn't really SEE any birds. We were convinced that the sounds were being piped into the town. In fact, they are. They also pipe in fake leaves in the fall and fake snow in the winter.

The architecture is interesting. At least, the above picture of the post office designed by Michael Graves was different. Some of the other buildings were interesting as well. It's difficult to believe that people actually LIVE here, with all the houses looking the same, and apparently very strict rules regarding lawn maintanence and decor.

It's not a suprise that Celebration was built by the Disney corporation to be their ideal living community. It looks and feels like the Truman Show. I was expecting to be kidnapped by a Stepford Wive at any moment and turned into an animatronic robot.

I suggest, if you're planning on a visit to Celebration, don't let your guard down and keep away from the drinking water.

Magic, Magic, Magic, Magic

Tonight is the beginning of the Orioles regular season. I know it's sad that they're not opening at Camden Yards this year, but it'll be fun, nevertheless. I actually have tickets to the home opener this year for the first time ever. Let us all now take a deep breath and appreciate the fact that, for the next few weeks, we can dream about a playoff spot, or at least going 500 for the year.

Here's to all the teams being in first place today.

Reminder

Season 2 of Twin Peaks comes out on DVD tomorrow! I am so excited. It includes all of the remaining episodes. There is also chatter that there will be a future release including the pilot along with the series. Just in case you were wondering.

Exciting Simpsons News

To coincide with the opening of the Simpsons movie on July 27th, it has been reported that 11 7-Elevens across the country will be retrofitted to look like Kwik-E-Marts. And that's not all. You'll be able to buy actual Buzz Cola, Krusty O's cereal, and other Simpson food paraphanaleia! How awesome is this! Hopefully, there will be one within driving distance of Baltimore.

please!

And I Quote

The following statement was just spoken to me at the office by my co-worker:

"Well, you know it was the Turks who started the whole bad fornication thing"

(me looking puzzled)

"You know, anal. It wasn't the Greeks. It was the Turks."

My office is hilarious.

(I am also a liberal in a sea of conservatives)

Yummy

My lovely husband bought these for me when I was away last week. They are so much better than Baked Lays.

Finally

I finally made it back from the mid-west last night, after being almost stranded in St. Louis for the weekend because of the lovely suprise ice storm in Baltimore. Luckily, there were seats available on the late night flight to Chicago, so I spent St. Patrick's Day with brunch at the Bongo Room, a few pints of Guiness at the Gingerman, dinner at the Greek Islands, and visiting with some of my favorite friends.

Thanks to Louella for hosting me at such a late notice and for the super early ride to the airport this morning!

Stuck in the Midwest

Hello readers!

I am being held hostage in the midwest. Tonight, I'm in Effingham, Illinois. So far, the highlight of my day has been flipping off a "pregnancy crisis center" with fetus development models in the window.

Yes, I know it's their right to display these things in the window. I also know it's my right to give them the finger.

I did, however, visit the largest truck stop in the world yesterday. It rules.

More later...

Found!

I found the dark chocolate mini eggs at Giant this afternoon! They are really good. You should go buy some.

On the Needles

This week, I'm working on this turtle from the winter issue of knitty for my friends' baby shower. After she got her first sonogram (or ultrasound, whatever it's called), she mentioned her future kid kinda looked like a sea turtle. Hence, the turtle theme. So far, I have the body finished and one leg.

I also finished this lovely shawl for my Grandmother's 90th birthday in a few weeks. It was knit in blue. I haven't taken pics of it yet, but here's a pic from the Interweave Knits site. The pattern can be found in their current issue.

I also finished the back panel of my cabled cardigan that I will hopefully finish before next winter.

Socks, Part 2

While going through the pattern, I came across this way cooler picture of the socks. I still have my Speak & Spell somewhere!

Phone home.

I have to make these socks

In the current issue of knitty there's a pattern for these socks.

I have to make them.

I wonder if I'll only make one. probably.

Request for Candy

Yesterday, as I was writing about my favorite Easter candy, I thought about what a perfect world it would be if the Cadbury mini eggs came in dark chocolate.

Well, they do! If anyone sees these in the store, please buy me a bag and I'll pay you back for it.

Thank you!
